So I have a i7-6700k with a Z170XP-SLI motherboard, these components fully support windows 7, so decided to install Windows 7 on my M.2 NVMe SSD. I was successfully able to install Windows 7 using rufus (GPT and UEFI) on a usb and also using the msi smart tool to insert necessary drivers for the install, mother board settings during install are, other OS, CSM off.Now for some reason Windows 7 wont boot up, it gets stuck on the Starting Windows logo then goes into Windows error recovery, anybody knows what's going on ? Pretty sure that if you disable Secure Boot you will be able to boot from USB-based optical media again. I am pretty sure the same issue is behind your USB flash drives not wanting to boot. They need to provide a key to the UEFI to be allowed to boot in Secure Boot mode. If installing 64bit Windows 10 or Windows 8 the USB Flash drive must have a bootmgr.efi or SOME sort of ".EFI" file at the directory root. Otherwise on a secure boot enabled system with CSM off I don't think they will be allowed as boot options. CSM was how "dumb" devices were able to bypass Secure Boot's protection of the system if they couldn't provide the authorization. Use this tool and under "Partition Scheme" try making your bootable USB drive as a GPT disk. It has three options to choose from if that still does not work. Also, make sure you are still using FAT32 for the file system, NTFS won't work. FWIW, you can wipe a disk and format it as GPT in Windows as well, without using a special tool. To wipe the disk, including it's formatting and boot type, run command as an admin and type diskpart, list disk, select disk #, clean. Then change the disk type in disk manager.
