New 01 Nov 2021 #1 Chrome First Tab won't open. The Issue - The very first tab to open in Chrome is not completely loading (e.g. the little circular icon just continues going around and around). All of the following observations are directly impacted by this one fault:1. Changing the On start up settings options Open the new Tab Page; Continue where you left off; Open a specific Page all make no difference.2. No web page links in the Startup Menu will directly open the browser. Site info says Your connection to this site is not secure. However if the browser is already open and still attempting to load that same first tab, then these very same links will open in the browsers new tabs 2,3 etc respectively and site info is secure. 3. The show Home button settings set on a specific custom web address does work OK.4. Saved Bookmarks do Work OK 5. Typing anything in the Address bar while this same first tab is still trying to load, allows the respective site to open perfectly and only now do all other tasks behave normally e.g any of the links in the Start Menu open straight away etc.In short, once any Tab is open properly then everything behaves as normal. Conversely while that first tab is trying to open Nothing functions properly. I have also seen the following error pop up from time to time while turning my PC inside out searching for a solution - can't remember where and it's no longer apparent. (Awe Snap - Error Code - RESULT_CODE_HUNG).I believe I've tried just about every suggestion I could find on the NET with no luck - help please !!! In March, Google put an end to its attempted invasion of the Windows desktop by killing the Chrome Apps Launcher for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The company said at the time it would remove the launcher in July. The app launcher was an icon on the Windows taskbar that contained links to all your installed Chrome apps. The feature made it easier to get at your installed Chrome apps— say, Google Drive, Maps, or Gmail—without launching the full Chrome browser. Google said it decided to give up on the feature because most users prefer to launch Chrome apps from the browser anyway. If you’re not clear on the difference, Chrome apps are not the same as browser extensions. Chrome apps are designed to function as stand-alone programs. They are built on the Chrome platform, but exist in their own window separate from the Chrome browser. Now that July is here, it’s time to figure out how to maintain easy access to Chrome apps. Chrome has a built-in bookmarks bar shortcut for apps.First, you want to make sure it’s easy to access your Chrome apps inside Chrome. By default, Google puts a shortcut called Apps in Chrome’s bookmarks bar. If you got rid of that bookmark because you were using the app launcher, it’s easy to get the shortcut back.First, hover your mouse over your bookmarks bar and then right-click. Next, select the Show apps shortcut option from the context menu. The Apps shortcut should now be on the far left of your bookmarks bar. Whenever you need an app just click that icon and Chrome will open a new tab at chrome://apps where all your Chrome apps are listed.Chrome apps and the taskbar You can still put Chrome apps on your taskbar.Returning the apps shortcut makes it easy to access your Chrome apps in one place, but what about putting Chrome apps in the Windows taskbar? That’s still possible on an à la carte basis.Let’s say you want to have Google Keep on your taskbar. Open a new tab in Chrome and navigate to chrome://apps or click the Apps shortcut. Next, right-click on. Google Chrome: Is there a keyboard shortcut to open a link in a new tab? 2. Google Chrome keeps opening this new tab - virus? 21. Read our disclosure page to find out how can you help MSPoweruser sustain the editorial team Read more Google Chrome comes with a built-in pop-up blocker that does a decent job at blocking malicious pop-ups. At the core, though, the pop-up blocker is quite basic and does not block automatic redirects and similar harmful actions triggered by sketchy websites. In the coming months, Google will be adding new features to Chrome that’ll make the browser capable of detecting and blocking these harmful actions. And with the release of Chrome 64, Google will be automatically blocking unexpected and malicious redirects from websites and show an info bar instead where the user can decide whether or not they want the auto-redirect to actually happen.Google’s also taking action against sketch websites that open the intended destination of a hyperlink or button on a new tab and display malicious pages on the current tab. The company says Chrome will be able to block this type of redirects starting with Chrome 65 and take users to their intended destination directly instead of opening it in a separate new tabAnd lastly, the search engine giant is adding changes to Chrome’s existing pop-up blocker early next year that will enable the browser to block malicious links disguised as download buttons, site controls, etc., that are actually used to track the user’s clicks and open malicious popups and perform the aforementioned auto-redirects.Google hopes the upcoming changes to Chrome will result in a better and more secure web browsing experience for users, but that really depends on if the new blockers are actually effective.
